Sam Roon here. I decided I’m going to document the trials and tribulations of booking a tour on your own. We’ve done it before but there were a ton of mistakes made and this time around I’m trying to learn from those mishaps and execute with a little more efficiency.
So we tried to get some booking agents to help us out but because we’re about as popular as a benchwarmer on the chess team in the professional world of heavy music, there’s not a whole lot these guys can do for us. It’s not about the music or anything personal.. it’s just that in the trying times of people stealing music online and an over-saturated scene, every band needs to be able to have some kind of backing and we’re just too small to guarantee what they’re looking for.
That being said, we’re a fucking live band and if we’re not playing shows then we might as well kill ourselves. To prevent the untimely death of the members of HUNG, we decided that we’re going to do this shit ourselves. As our good friend from the band IKILLYA would say, we’ve gotta “earn our stripes.” And that’s exactly what we intend to do.
Day One – Mapping out the tour
This isn’t EXACTLY day one since we’ve been talking about this short tour for some time, but officially I’m going to landmark it that way because it’s the first time I sat down to actually map out where we plan to go.
HUNG has toured North to places like our second home in Worcester, MA and all the way up to Portland, Maine and we’ve hit every state in-between. A few years back we went out for a coupe of weeks and hit some amazing places in the midwest. We’ve done the Milwaukee Metalfest and are always willing to travel to revisit some of the awesome venues we performed at. Hell we even travelled East from New York City to go out onto Long Island and play for some bikers and metalheads out there.
So what’s next? The obvious: SOUTH. There are some amazing places to play on the East coast and we’re going to hit several of them then come back up just a little in-land from the coast. Here’s the short list of cities we’re working on:
- Philadelphia, PA
- Baltimore, MD
- Washington DC
- Richmond, VA
- Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC
- Columbia, SC
- Augusta, GA
- Atlanta, GA
- Chattanooga, TN
- Charleston, WV
- Pittsburgh, PA
So we’re not limited to these exact places but we picked them based on how far we can get regarding gas on the pay an underground band could get from small clubs. So there ya have it, some science to back up the locations!
I put the call out on Facebook and Twitter and a couple of really awesome friends replied already to help out where they can. Special thanks to Ryan Norris out in Philadelphia, PA and Merrydeath Herrmann in Myrtle Beach, SC for already trying to help us out!
So that’s all for now folks. We’ll keep you posted on dates and updates on who’s helping us book and where! Maybe we should call this the “Full Transparency Tour?” …we’ll work on the title.
